William Mckinley the 25th president (1897-1901) worked During the Civil War as a subordinate of Rutherford B. Hayes, both of whom would later become POTUS. Mckinley supervised a thriving economy; he begun and won the Spanish-American War; gained Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines from Spain; and signed a resolution annexing Hawaii to the United States.
